Birchbox Review April 2016

Birchbox is one of the original beauty subscription boxes. For $10 a month they send 4-7 products to try. They often have promotions going on for new subscribers. Right now you can get a free Rifle Paper Co. Pocket Notebook Duo with your subscription. Use this link to tell them we sent you. :)

This month they sent two box design variations, and I can't decide which one I like more. They both have gold foil and a neon color box that coordinates with their lids.

This is the curated editor's box, and the yellow box is my non-curated sample choice box.

I paid $6.41 for this box (last year they had a 30% off sale, so I got a year long subscription for about $77.) This month I got 7 samples so this box basically paid for itself. (For those of you who are unaware, you can review each sample in your box on Birchbox's website in exchange for $1 in the shop. So this month I will get $7 in points!)

Everyone got a 20% off Rifle Paper Co. coupon this month! How nice! This will be used within the hour.

Au Naturale Trio .3 g $1.60

Broken Down: Lipstick 0.1 g $0.59 Blusher 0.1 g $0.35  Eyeshadow 0.1g $0.66 I didn't realize how small this sampler was going to be. As much as I love miniature things, and I love miniature things, this sample's size and design made it really difficult to use. I am excited to try these all natural, organic, creme products, but the retail value is just sad.

Davines Ol Trio $4.42 I like when Birchbox sends out samples from the same line in one box. I feel like that is the way these products are meant to be used, together, so I like testing them that way! Davines isn't my favorite brand, but of all of their products, I was most interested in trying these.

image.jpg

Davines Ol All in One Milk 1.69 oz $11.11 It is basically a leave-in conditioner and it is supposed to tame hair, which I desperately need.

image.jpg

Ol Shampoo 0.4 oz $1.18 These products are supposed to hydrate hair, boost volume, and improve hair texture and shine. Even though I found other Davines products to be ineffective for me, I am still excited about trying these!

Ol Conditioner 0.4 oz $1.55 I don't mind getting foil packets of shampoo and conditioner, especially now that my hair is short, I can really get a feel for a product with just .4 oz!

Acure Pore Minimizing Facial Scrub $3.25 I've tried Acure scrubs before, and I like them. Nothing to write home about, but they are good. I am intrigued by this pore minimizing promise, because I have pores that need minimizing, and I normally don't expect scrubs to do that for me. In addition, this company is organic (whatever that means) and good for the planet! This month's box screams all natural, doesn't it?

Whish Shave Cream .75 oz $3.00 I personally don't see what all the hoopla is about when it comes to this Whish Shave Cream. It's a thin lotion-type shaving cream, and when trying to describe the scent to Sarah, the only words I could come up with were "it smells like swimming pool with a hint of grapefruit, or apple, or old people, I'm not quite sure." If that gives you any idea of what this smells like.

English Laundry Notting Hill Femme .06 oz $2.47 This perfume's warm, woodsy male counterpart was one of my favorite discoveries through Birchbox Man (yes I am a woman who was subscribed to Birchbox man; this is a serious addiction, and also it's the 21st century so sue me?). It smells amazing, and I had really been wanting to try out Notting Hill for women for some time now! I was afraid they'd make it too floral, but it really is like a more womanly version of the original. I'm way too cheap to buy the full size (it retails for $90), but I will use this sample, and I might buy a rollerball one day with my points.

Here's the gang all lined up together for their class photo. How adorable.

The is a the Au Naturale palette swatched, the first line is a light application of the lipstick, the second line is a darker version, the third line is the creme blush, and the line you can't see is the creme eyeshadow. I'm hoping it shows up better on my eyelids. These are all quite balmy, so be aware.

Verdict: This Birchbox has a retail value of $14.74 but the gorgeous boxes, money for the Birchbox store, 20% off Rifle Paper Co. coupon, amazing customer service, and the ability to have some say in what I get each month keep me coming back for more. I may not like some of the samples I got, but the ones that I do like really make it worth it for me!

Thanks for reading!
